  3.                     VEN-TEL 9600 V.32 MODEMS

  5.      Ven-Tel 9600 bps products are some of the most advanced
  6. modems on the market today.  In addition to an excellent feature
  7. set, they also come with a free, five-year warranty and toll-free
  8. end user technical support.  Following are some of the reasons
  9. why you should consider these products:

  11. REMOTE CONFIGURATION
  12.  
  13.      The 9600 V.32 can be remotely configured via dial-up phone
  14. lines from any location.  This provides for the isolation and
  15. resolution of configuration problems with a phone call from
  16. either your system manager or Ven-Tel tech support.  The way this
  17. feature works is very simple.  After making a connection with the
  18. unit that is to be configured, a few simple keystrokes will
  19. enable access to the modem's local mode.  From that point, the
  20. unit's option settings can be reviewed and configuration changes
  21. made through the use of standard "AT" commands.  The modem is
  22. again ready for use.

  24. ACCESS SECURITY WITH CALLBACK
  25.  
  26.      This feature restricts remote modem users from accessing the
  27. local system through the use of password security.  The 9600 bps
  28. modems have the capacity to store up to fifty user ID numbers
  29. with corresponding passwords, security access levels, and
  30. callback numbers.  If access security has been enabled when a
  31. call is answered, the 9600 modem will then request the caller's
  32. password.  After the password is verified, the modem can
  33. disconnect and place a return call to a predetermined location.
  34. Three levels of security are provided - Standard Callback
  35. (callback to a specific number), Programmed Callback (allows user
  36. to enter their callback number) and Passthrough Access (no
  37. callback).  Callback security is recommended when a system
  38. manager does not want unauthorized users to be able to dial into
  39. the host system and possibly obtain confidential data.

  41. ERROR CORRECTION/DATA COMPRESSION

  43.      All Ven-Tel 9600 modems use MNP4 and V.42 for error control.
  44. MNP Level 5 and the new V.42bis standard are used for
  45. compression.  Error-free data transmission is important where
  46. integrity of data is critical, as in the financial industry.
  47. Data compression is a method which allows modems to send data at
  48. throughput rates much faster than their base transmission speed.
  49. For example, the 9600 Plus can send data at speeds of up to
  50. 38,400 bps with V.42bis and 19,200 bps with MNP5.  This equates
  51. to faster data transfer and lower phone cost.
